July 12 – Northward Ho! Northward MoHo?

July 12, 2006

salutary \SAL-yuh-ter-ee\, adjective:
1. Producing or contributing to a beneficial effect; beneficial; advantageous.
2. Wholesome; healthful; promoting health.

Today we bid a fond farewell to our benignant hosts, John and Shannon. They have been so accommodating, letting us overrun their home for the last 4 days without ever complaining. I must admit that it was nice taking “real” showers, eating at a “real” table, getting internet access whenever I wanted, and being able to watch movies on a huge screen, rather than on the laptop in the MoHo. We did experience our typical late departure because of me trying to squeeze in as much emailing and blogging as possible before leaving our high-speed oasis. Of course, we did have another reason for the delay and that centred around waiting for the cushions and mattress to dry in the sun (see yesterday's entry for more details). Luckily is was a lovely Kansas City morning with a clear blue sky and the sun beating down with over 90 degrees of solar drying power. We did finally get underway by early afternoon with our final destination for the day set to Omaha, NE … or thereabouts. We enjoyed another road-side MoHo-based lunch at a rest stop on the way and it seemed like right after that was when the road flattened out. No more rolling countryside just flat highways with cruise-control written all over them. We slid past Omaha, Nebraska on the Iowa side and settled in for the night at a lovely little state campground in Wilson Valley, right on the great Missouri river. We didn’t get in until about 10:00 pm at which point is was dark so we didn’t yet know what a nice little place this was until tomorrow.
