July 9 - Vote for Pedro

July 9, 2006

Yesterday’s word was:

apotheosis \uh-pah-thee-OH-sis; ap-uh-THEE-uh-sis\, noun;
1. Elevation to divine rank or stature; deification.
2. An exalted or glorified example; a model of excellence or perfection of a kind.

Today was our first lazy day in a while. What a welcome change. We got up late then cancelled our plans to go watch the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Kansas City Royals since it was raining. Good thing we didn’t bother going. The Jays only scored 11 runs so there would not have been that much action anyway. John gave me a tour of his neoteric house. As you can see from the photos, they live in a gorgeous neighbourhood. John got the place for a great price but it definitely needs some TLC. John is only now finding out that just about every light in the house needs some sort of repair and just about every flat surface within reach of a 3-year-old has crayon scribbling on it. Even on the inside of some cupboard doors! They just moved in recently so we rearranged a few things while we were at it. John temporarily set up his 61” DLP rear-projection HD TV in the basement just for our viewing benefit and the boys were the first ones to take advantage. First they watched Men In Black while we “hard disked” the World Cup Final on John’s DVR. Then John introduced us to a cult film. Those of you who recognize the title of today’s entry already know the name of the movie. For the rest of you, it is Napoleon Dynamite. You pretty much have to see it so I won’t even try to explain it. Then we watched the previously “plattered” match in high-definition only to find out that the match went into overtime but the network’s original time slot did not take that into account so … the DVR version ended before the overtime started. Oh well, it’s only soccer, eh? We can catch the highlights on Sports Desk, right? By the way, who ended up winning? ;-) Then we all went out for dinner and afterwards John and Shannon took us to Sheridians which is a fabulous Frozen Custard spot. We had never had frozen custard before but if you like ice cream, you’ll like frozen custard. And the must have for the neophyte is a "Concrete". It was quite delicious and definitely gives Ben and Jerry’s a run for their money. All in all, it was a very nice way to spend a rainy Sunday in KC.
