July 28 – Pants? We don’t need no stinking pants!

(YES, we are still alive. We have just been cut off from any internet access for a while. I uploaded a bunch of content today but there is more to come so stay tuned. We are about to head off into the Rocky Mountains so the posts may become somewhat delayed as we make our way through and I search for WiFi locations. Wish me luck!)

malleable \MAL-ee-uh-buhl\, adjective:
1. Capable of being extended or shaped by beating with a hammer, or by the pressure of rollers; -- applied to metals.
2. Capable of being altered or controlled by outside forces; easily influenced.
3. Capable of adjusting to changing circumstances; adaptable.

Today marked the first time I have worn pants since we left over 5 weeks ago. I have been wearing shorts ever since we left (in case you were wondering!), with the exception of the evening we went out for our wedding anniversary and that was done for reasons of formality not temperature. And although it started off chilly this morning, by the afternoon I had to change back into shorts. Yay! The main plans for today were to get valve extenders installed on the dual rear wheels of the MoHo, as well as get the rear light issue fixed, and then drive to Drumheller. For those of you who do not know what valve extenders are, they are extensions that are added to the valves on your wheels/tires which you use to check the air pressure in your tires. The standard MoHo valves are very short, like on a car, and are virtually impossible to use do to the thickness and design of the rims on the MoHo. So yes, it is true … if you have put two and two together at this point you will have realized that I have driven all the way to Edmonton without ever having checked the air in my tires even once. And yes, in a perfect world, that would never happen. Well now I am all set up to check the tire pressure on the MoHo except for one rather important thing. I now need an air pressure gauge that can read up to 80 psi or so. So, I am still waiting to check the air in the MoHo tires. I wonder if I will ever manage to check the pressure in the tires before I sell the MoHo? Perhaps this is another opportunity for a pool as to when the first pressure reading will take place.
And speaking of pools, that segues nicely into the whole rear tail light problem. The shop that installed the valve extenders was also able to fix my tail light problem. I was a little worried to find out what I would have to pay for someone to track down where the electrical problem resided. I figured that it would be at least 1 or 2 hours of labour minimum to find and fix the issue. Instead I was shocked to see that the labour charge was $5.00! It turns out that the socket for the light bulb simply needed some minor adjustment … easy to see according to the person who fixed this. There is no question that this person has obviously found his metier. So Joe is the winner of this pool even if I didn’t make it to August 23rd as he had selected. But he was closest so he wins. What does he win? I’m still trying to work that out.
If you have been wondering what all the photos of plants are about, we did squeeze in a visit to the Muttart Conservatory while the MoHo was getting the shakedown. It was actually pretty interesting. It is made up of 4 glass pyramids inside of which are unique horticultural displays. What is cool is that each pyramid has its climate set to mimick that of a different environment. There was tropical, temperate, and arid. The forth pyramid is used for special shows throughout the year. It was nice to be able to see so many different types of plants you nornally never get to see, all within such a compact area.
Then it was off to Drumheller to see some dinosaurs! Yes, this town is apparently known worldwide for the dinosaur bones, fossils and remains in general that have been found in the area. I have actually been to Drumheller once before about 26 years ago but I was a little too inebriated to really remember much about it at all. Let’s hope things go slightly better this time around.

Hi Jeff,

Keep up the good work!

Alain,

Thanks for the comment. I must say, you are far too kind with your compliments ... so feel free to comment anytime you like!

Were you by any chance offering me a job? ;->

I say we all go double or nothing on checking the tire pressure. I'll stick with August 23.

Does it count when you step out of the MoHo to head off for your morning (ok, weekly) shower and you glance over a the rear tires on that side and say to yourself, "They don't look flat"?

Partial credit only. Had you been drinking?
