Aug 20 – Dinner Chez Pearson

Aug 20, 2006

Another easy going morning at the lake. However we need to check out of Cultus Lake by 11:00am so we had to move it once we did get going. The plan today is to head to Burnaby, a suburb of Vancouver, and set up camp there for three or four days. This will be the base from which we explore and experience Vancouver. After “enjoying” the local Abbotsford traffic jams, and a brief view of Mount Baker (if I am not mistaken) we arrived in Burnaby. We did not realize that the RV park we selected would have an indoor heated pool and a nice big hot tub. We also did not realize that this would be our first accommodation to break the $50-a-night barrier. Ouch! Once we slipped our MoHo into its mooring area we were off to Carol and Neil’s place as we had acquiesced to their invitation to dinner at their home this evening. Turns out that we were only about a 10 minute drive away so we were there in no time. We got a chance to see their place and spend some time talking with them about what we should consider doing while we are in Vancouver. The first thing they mentioned was ZipTreking. You’ll find out more about this later. To do this however, you have to go to Whistler, a well known ski town in the mountains north of Vancouver. I figured it would be a good excuse to make the trip to Whistler anyway as it is supposed to be a gorgeous drive. The kids were totally into it so we decided we had to go. Chantal, who has a certain fear of heights was less enthusiastic.
Their little son Quinten was his usual unbelievably good-natured self the whole time and we spent a fun evening together over a couple of bottles of wine while our kids enjoyed playing some new games on Neil and Carol’s (or should I say their 18-year-old son’s?) Sony PS2. This once again, allowed us to continue our experiment in sleep deprivation for the kids yet another night.

Today’s word:

acquiesce \ak-wee-ES\, intransitive verb:
To accept or consent passively or without objection -- usually used with 'in' or 'to'.
