Aug 23 – Sea to Sky to ZipTrek!

Aug 23, 2006

Before I get started I should remind everyone that I am periodically uploading small video clips of things we are up to. If you want to check in to see what is new all you have to do is click on the link on the left-hand side of the screen which reads: “Click here to see our videos!” Once you have watched a video I recommend clicking the “Back” button to take you back to my list of videos rather than the list that Google is showing on the right-hand side of the page. Googles list are not all mine and may not be quite what you are expecting, if you know what I mean.

Well, another month has past since my update on our daily average costs for our trip. So here is the 2-month update for the following categories:

Accommodation: $30 (AVG from July 23 = $19)
Food: $48 (AVG from July 23 = $48)
Entertainment: $24 (AVG from July 23 = $19)
Misc: $26 (AVG from July 23 = $25)
MoHo/Auto Maint: $15 (AVG from July 23 = $15)
MoHo/Auto Gas: $44 (AVG from July 23 = $48)

And our current km/day works out to be:

MoHo: 128 (AVG from July 23 = 168)
Matrix: 54 (Avg from July 23 = 39)

The good news is that overall we are still under budget. (as if any of you are concerned about that)

We woke up in a motel this morning which was definitely a change of pace. Unfortunately it was actually not so relaxing. You’d think I’d be used to everyone sleeping in close quarters but for some reason I kept waking up all night. But I shook it off as I did not want this to affect my upcoming day of ZipTreking session. We had a nice long, warm, shower and then packed the car and headed for Whistler. I did not realize just how scenic that road is. I have taken it a few times before but I it was in the winter and I have a feeling it must have been in the fog, in a snow storm or at night as I don’t remember any of the magnificent views along the way. Either that or my memory is degrading even more rapidly that I thought. We made it to Whistler with plenty of time to cruise Whistler Village. Then the kids and I went ZipTreking while Chantal, who is not all that fond of heights, chose to hang out in the village instead and do some shopping and enjoy a cold beer on the patio. Of course, today was another cloudless, sunny day.
The ZipTreking was a blast which can’t really be captured in pictures … but I tried anyway! I took some videos which you can find and view by clicking on the video link on the left-hand side of this web page. It was definitely a lot of fun however it somehow did not live up to the expectations that the kids and I had. But don’t get me wrong. We had a blast and if you like cool, new and adventurous things, you’ll love ZipTreking. But if you like to get good value for your money, you may want to think twice. Especially on a day like today, I could have quaffed quite a few beers on the patio and still had lots of cash leftover. But we don’t regret going. It was definitely a unique experience. Then it was another breath-taking drive back to Vancouver to pick up the MoHo, then settle back into our campsite and head over to the hot tub. Life is good once again.
I guess I should mention that I had the mechanic adjust the air in the tires while he was doing everything else so … if I can count that as me checking the air in the tires then Joe was exactly right with his guess of Aug 23rd! Well done once again, Joe.

Today’s word:

quaff /'kwäf, 'kwaf /: verb1. intransitive verb : to drink deeply2. transitive verb : to drink (a beverage) deeply
