Aug 25 – Hello Seattle!

Aug 25, 2006

After a good night’s sleep in a real bed (thanks Tracy and Tony!) we were ready to take on the day. We set off for the Seattle Space Needle and other city highlights. We arrived only to find that the line for the Needle was a little lengthy so we quickly decided to change plans and check out the fun at the midway that just happens to right beside the Needle. We started with laser tag then moved on to bumper cars, roller coasters, water/log rides and more. By the way, do you think this would qualify as home schooling? Then we decided to have a quick bite to eat before heading to the famous “Public Market”. On our way down to the market Tracy made sure we passed a certain chrome, demi-sphere of water-based delight. This is an awesomely cool fountain that just cries out for you to interact with it. I don’t know what the name is so I’m just going to call it the HydroGlobe. The only other water-based icon I have seen to date that has been able to have this effect on people was the “spitting” video-wall in Chicago … ok, that may not be the best description of it but it was a big hit with the kids. Anyway, this silver, spouting half-globe in Seattle is incredible in its ability to draw children to it like a pied piper. You really have to see it in action but rest assured a good time was had by all. Then it was on to the free buses of downtown Seattle (Now why didn’t I think of this … free buses ... this is a great idea … it certainly increases ridership) to take us to the Public Market. A definite must see if you are in town. And be sure not to miss the “fish tossing”. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you get there, or alternatively, you can take a very close look at one of the photos. As we finished out tour through the market we got a call from Tony letting us know that he scammed us into the Microsoft summer family picnic for his division. So jumped back on the bus to take us to our vehicle in which we headed to Redmond to enjoy a mini-fair atmosphere in one of the parks on the Microsoft campus. There the kids, and kids at heart, got to partake in many different inflatable jumping and sliding activities plus some rock climbing walls, some “mechanical surfing" and for those looking for something a little more robustious, even some “bungy trampolining”. See photo of Morgan upside down for more detail. It was a very nice evening which also included all-you-can-eat burgers, ice cream and drinks … you’ve gotta like that. And once we got home we still had some time so Tony fired up their home theatre and we watched the movie ‘RV’. All I can say is that I am happy I didn’t see this movie until we had been doing the MoHo thing for a few months. Then off to sleep in a real bed again … ahhhh, the lap of luxury!

Today’s word:

robustious \roh-BUHS-chuhs\, adjective:

1. Boisterous; vigorous.

2. Coarse; rough; crude.
