We had the need to pick up a few things so today was the day. In our search for a shopping mall we stumbled across a Corvair Show. You remember the Chevrolet Corvair? For those of you who don’t remember, the

Corvair was 1960’s Chevrolet’s answer to the increasingly popular VW Beetle. It had a flat, or horizonatally-opposed 4-cylinder engine, like the Bug, which was mounted at the back of the car, like the Bug. The similarities pretty much vanished after that. The Corvair went on to become infamous as the target of, the then unknown, Ralph Nadar in his book, Unsafe At Any Speed. Nadar was the person who broadcast to the masses the Corvair’s putative weakness

in taking corners. As you can see in the photos, Chevrolet also created a pickup truck and a van version of this car. A rear-engined minivan and pickup … hmmmm. Those were very optimistic times, eh? Was this perhaps one of the first minivans and GM was just ahead of its time? Who knows. We did finally track town the store we were looking for. Appropriately enough, it was called Target and we hit it dead-on. We found what we wanted, along with a number of other things that we couldn’t resist because of the price. We managed to make an escape from Target before the bleeding of cash became too great. On our way back to the campsite we did a little exploring by car and ended up driving on the beach. It was still quite windy resulting in

strong waves again today but at least there was some nice sunshine to accompany it today. Since there were rip-tide warnings in effect we decided to forgo any ocean swimming and instead

selected the campground pool and spa. Morgan ended up meeting two girls at the pool and they ended up playing shuffleboard together after that. That’s my boy! We cooked up hamburgers on the BBQ tonight before having some friends drop by. Chantal met some fellow MoHo-ers yesterday and invited them over for a visit tonight. They are from Vancouver and had set out on their own tour of North America at just about the same time as us. The main difference being that they

are going around the continent clockwise rather than counter-clockwise like us. It was fun exchanging stories about our travels and we were both able to give each other suggestions on places to stay for the next few weeks as we each would covering the ground that the others had just come through. They were full-timing in their MoHo and were ultimately heading to Mexico. Afterward they gave us a tour of their rig and it was interesting to hear about all the modifications they had made to make things work better. I have a feeling I should have talked with these guys before we bought our MoHo. It was getting late so we had to wrap things up. The kids were very excited because they knew that we depart tomorrow for Mickey’s world!
