Oct 30 – The Forgotten Coast

Oct 30, 2006

One of the reasons we decided to hang out on the panhandle of Florida was to spend some time on the beach. We had not been to a beach since California and we were starting to miss it. So the plan was to take a few lazy days and just enjoy … in other words, we’re on holidays again! So … we slept in. Once we got up and had breakfast we went down to the water for a walk along the beach. It was a radiant, sunny day and the beach had the same white sand we saw up in the Pensacola area. It all provided a perfect backdrop for a simply idyllic stroll by the ocean. Morgan had some other ideas and you can check the videos for more detail. The difference here was the lack of people. We had the entire beach almost all to ourselves. I even took a nap in the afternoon. Ah, yes, this is the life. It was a low-key day which was more than welcome. Once you pass Panama City it seems like everything slows down. There are fewer people. There is less traffic. And there are definitely not as many stores and tourist traps. They actually refer to this part of the coast as the Forgotten Coast, and I can see why. But it is a perfect place to kick back and relax.

Today’s word:

idyll \EYE-dl\, noun: The adjective form is idyllic.

1. A simple descriptive work, either in poetry or prose, dealing with simple, rustic life; pastoral scenes; and the like.
2. A narrative poem treating an epic, romantic, or tragic theme.
3. A lighthearted carefree episode or experience.
4. A romantic interlude.
